An Alan Shearer penalty in time beyond the three minutes added on by referee Mike Riley threatened to give all the points to Newcastle from an exciting game at St James' Park. Fortunately for Town, Shearer put his kick wide of the post and a point was the least Town deserved after a battling display had twice seen them ahead through Marcus Bent. That the penalty had been awarded for an obvious dive by Clarence Acuna would have added extra salt to the wound, had Shearer scored. |

Despite a second half fightback it ended a black night for Town's black clad men, with George Burley suffering his 100th league defeat as Ipswich manager. A disappointing first half saw Blackburn two-up, but a much improved second half saw Marcus Stewart get back into scoring action, but it wasn't enough to get Town a valuable point. |

Leeds ran out 2-0 winners of a wind affected game at Elland Road this evening. Once again Town must reflect on more errors at the back, but in truth the Blues created little of consequence despite the odd decent passing move in midfield. |

A 10th minute goal from Marcus Bent won Town another three points and took them out of the bottom three. Fulham had a late flurry but created little in the way of clearcut chances in an attacking game played in soaking wet conditions, much like the match earlier in the season at Craven Cottage. |
